Foreign Exchange Semester
For bachelor students in economics at the University of Siegen it is obligatory to make a foreign exchange semester or an international internship of at least four month in a country of the European Union. This will not only increase their occupational opportunities in the future but also enlarge the students' personal experiences. Concretely, five advantages are listed here:

additional skills: Students can receive practical or theoretical skills from the point of view of a foreign country.

foreign languages: Students can improve their foreign language skills. Even if courses are offered in English the exchange students can take part in a language course in the foreign country (e.g. „Swedish for Beginners“ at a sister school in Sweden).

cultural competence: Students get to know the way of life in the foreign country. They need to learn that some habits are different from those in Germany.

planning: The stay abroad is supported by the Department of Economics at the University of Siegen and the international office. However, the students need to do a large part of the organisation themselves and can benefit from this experience in the future.

flexibility: The prearrangement and realisation of the time abroad strengthen the flexibility of the outgoing students. This also regards the selection of the courses in the foreign country in consistence with the study program of the University of Siegen.
